Kenneth "Bud" Sanford's Obituary
Kenneth “Bud” Sanford, 91, a resident of Longview, Texas passed away on January 23, 2014 at Good Shepherd Hospital. He was born in Ruston, Louisiana on January 15, 1923.
Mr. Sanford was District Production Superintendent for Sun Oil Company for 37 ½ years and also worked as a consultant after retiring. He honorably served his country from December 8, 1941 to 1946 in the United States Navy. He served on the USS Casco in the Pacific theater during WWII, which was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine in the Northern Pacific at Attu. He also saw action in the South Pacific. He served on the destroyer USS Powers, which patrolled the Mediterranean.
In retirement he enjoyed his lake house in Louisiana, a place for family gatherings and the making of endless memories. Bud loved visiting with his grandchildren at the lake and his family loved his engaging gatherings. He also loved playing golf, boating, and all outdoor activities.
Mr. Sanford was preceded in death by his parents, Carrie Lucille Sanford and Rev. Roland Potts Sanford; his brother, Artis Sanford; his beloved granddaughter Sherri Lynn Addison; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Those left to cherish his loving memory are his loving, caring wife of 71 years Donna Jean; daughters and sons-in-law Sharon Lee Sanford Addison and Ken of Gretna, Louisiana, Beverly Anne Sanford Vann and O.D. of Mobile, Alabama, and Diane Marie Sanford Nichols and Norm of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; 5 grandchildren and their spouses; 14 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
Graveside services will be held at 12:30 Saturday, January 25, 2014 in the Rosewood Park Mausoleum under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the charity of your choice.
