Kenneth Ray Prather's Obituary
Visitation for Kenneth Ray Prather, 1st Sgt. U.S. Army retired, will be 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm Saturday, July 14th at Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Rd.
Mr. Prather died Thursday, July 12 2007.
He was born October 24, 1932 in the Ogden community near Ashdown, Arkansas to James and Necie Prather. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Army where he spent twenty years defending his country. Three years were spent as a POW in Korea and one was a tour in Vietnam in 1968-69.
Papaw spent countless hours with his grandchildren telling stories, pulling pranks and instilling them with the knowledge of his unconditional love for them, and pride in them. His sense of humor, his sense of right and wrong, his love for his family and country will be greatly missed.
Mr. Prather is survived by his wife of 57 years, Abelene of Tatum; daughter and son-in-law, Terry and William ?Pud? Barrett of Tatum; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Ken Prather of El Dorado, Arkansas. Jim and Vickie Prather of Van Alstyne, Texas and Chris and Pam Prather of Tatum. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brad Barrett, Kenny Barrett, Brent Prather, Courtney Prather, Mandy Prather, Kay Prather, Erin Loewe, Daniel Prather, and Dustan Prather. He also leaves behind nine great grandchildren.
He is survived by his sister, Joyce Anderson of Houston; brothers, Walter Prather of Winter Haven, California and James Prather of Texarkana; and sister-in-law, Edna Jo Hill of Brownstown, Arkansas.
He also leaves behind a special niece, Debbie Johnson of Texarkana and extended family, Rick Martindale of Houston.
