Kenneth M. Albert's Obituary
On Friday December 8, 2023, Kenneth M. Albert, beloved father and grandfather passed away after a lengthy illness at the age of 94 in Longview, Texas. He was born on March 13,1929 to Manfred H. Albert, attorney, and Audrey A. Albert, homemaker, in Houston, TX. Along with Ken’s younger brother, Leonard R. Albert, they resided on Branard Street in Houston for many years.
Ken graduated from Lamar High School and then Rice Institute in 1952 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering, both in Houston. As a student at Rice, he was Cadet Captain of the Naval ROTC which led to enlistment in the US Navy, Construction Battalion. While stationed in Gulfport, Mississippi he met the love of his life, Georgene Julia Goethals, a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi.
Following their marriage in 1955, Ken and Georgene moved to Houston, Texas where he began a life-long career as a mechanical engineer. During their time in the Houston area, they had their first two children, Stephen and Stacy, before moving in 1960 to Longview, Texas where Ken joined Kodak’s Texas Eastman Chemical Company until retirement in 1996. They lived happily in east Texas where youngest son Charles was born in 1965.
A devoted Catholic, man of few words and keen intellect, Ken’s interests outside of family and work included: photography, oil painting, home improvement, tennis, and bass fishing. He tremendously enjoyed taking out his boat to Lake-O-the-Pines along with a family member and a large tackle-box full of lures. Ken helped with the Boy Scout of America and was involved with his church as an usher for years at St. Anthony’s and then later St. Mary’s where he was also a school board member.
Ken is preceded in death by his wife, Georgene, and their son, Charles. He is survived by his loving family: two children; son Stephen Albert with wife Cynthia of Houston, TX; daughter Stacy Jerrett of Stephenville, TX; and six grandchildren Virginia Albert, Warren Albert, Tanner Jerrett, Trace Jerrett, Nicholas Albert, and Noah Albert.
The family wishes to express its thanks to the staff at Summer Meadows and Heartsway Hospice. A family memorial service will be held at Rosewood Park in Longview.
