Kay Pigeon's Obituary
Kay Pigeon, 83, of Longview, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at her home. Kay was born April 24, 1935, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Lummie Joye and Everett Harden Clark. She attended the University of Arkansas and Tulsa University where she met Lee. Kay and Lee were married on July 30, 1955, in Tulsa, Oklahoma and then moved to Longview, Texas.
Kay worked at Texas Eastman, taught at Trinity School of Texas, and worked for several doctors and dentists in the Longview area. She was active in her church, Trinity Episcopal, for many years, and was a founder and active board member of the Humane Society of Northeast Texas for more than 30 years. She was the first director of the Humane Society’s animal shelter in Longview.
In her youth, Kay lived in several cities in Texas as her family moved around the state due to the expansion of the oil industry. She survived the explosion of the SS Grandcamp in Texas City, Texas on April 16, 1947, where she was living with her favorite aunt Moena Blocker, a longtime Texas City educator. In her retirement, Kay enjoyed ceramics, scrap booking and card making.
Kay is survived by her son, Lee Berkley Pigeon, Jr., and granddaughters Kellee Pigeon and her husband Kenneth Tuttle, Las Vegas, Nevada, Amanda Aguirre and her husband Austin, and great grandson Jameson Aguirre, Lawton, Oklahoma, and Ashley Pigeon, San Antonio, Texas; son Allen C. Pigeon and wife Vanessa, Houston, Texas, and grandson Brandon Pigeon, Houston, Texas, and granddaughter Christin Orban and her husband Scott, Fort Worth, Texas; and daughter Gail A. Pigeon and grandson Ryan Pigeon, Arlington, Texas; and many friends who will miss her kind heart, warm smile and abundant energy. She was preceded in death by her parents and Lee Berkley Pigeon, Sr., her loving husband of 62 years.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 906 Padon St., Longview, Texas. Rev. Dr. Frank W. Hughes will be officiating. A reception for family and friends will be held in Fellowship Hall following the service.
