Katie Yvonne Simpkins' Obituary
Katie Yvonne Simpkins, 86, of Hallsville, Texas passed away on Thursday March 16, 2023. A graveside service will be held at noon Tuesday, March 21, at the Hallsville Cemetery on Willow Street in Hallsville, Texas. The service will be led by her pastor, Dr. Charles Hunt of Woodland Hills Baptist Church.
Katie Yvonne Simpkins was born to James Pope Green and Leona Perry Green on April 8,1936. She went to school in Hallsville, Texas, graduating in 1955. She then studied at BMI Business Institute. After graduating, she worked for Gans and Smith Insurance. She married Cecil Wayne “Bud” Mullikin in 1957 and welcomed her first daughter Lisa in 1960.
She then moved to Eastman Kodak in 1961. Katie and Bud then had their second daughter, Susan in 1965. She worked at Eastman until her retirement in 1994.
Katie loved working in her beautiful yard, country music and dancing. She also enjoyed her family and home. She was a good cook and there are still many recipes today that were shared with others by Katie.
Katie was also known to always dress well. She always looked very nice. Everyone commented on her natural ability to dress. She even modeled some for Martin’s Distinctive Women’s Clothing a few times.
After Bud’s death in 1987, she married Kent Simpkins. They had a wonderful marriage full of friends, travel, fun and the Elks Lodge and VFW.
Katie is preceded in death by her parents; husbands Cecil Mullikin and Kent Simpkins; her grandson Brandon Young; her sister Marie Gibson; brother Jimmy Green; nephews Glen Gibson, Ronnie Shaw and Jay Green.
She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Mullikin Wright, Susan Mullikin and Angela Simpkins Folds; her son, Bryan Simpkins; her grandsons Austin Young and Collin Wright; brother Gerald Green (Christine); sister Carol Ann Harris; nieces and nephew Rusty Spence (Pam), Linda Gibson Lilly (Mike) and Leanne Spence Johnson.
Memorials May be given to Woodland Hills Baptist Church or Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #683 Marshall, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Walt Wright, Austin Young, Collin Wright, Bryan Simpkins, Rusty Spence and Michael Odom.
A special thanks to wonderful care givers Michael and Holly Odom and Prime Care Hospice for wonderful service that will never be forgotten.
