Katie Leola Dill Morton
Katie Leola Dill Morton was born February 1, 1918 to Bessie and Marshall Dill on a farm in southwestern Oklahoma. She died at the age of 91 years seven months Thursday, September 24, 2009 in Longview, Texas.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Monday September 28, 2009 at Rader Funeral Home in Longview, Texas. The family will be available for a time of greeting friends before the service. Katie will be buried next to her husband Dan in Jarrett Cemetery, Jacksonville, Texas.
Katie was a child of the depression era and she never forgot the values of hard work and perseverance instilled by her parents. After graduation from high school and a year in an Oklahoma business college, Katie moved to Borger, Texas to find work. She did find work , but also a deep abiding love. Katie and Dan Morton married in Amarillo, Texas November 15, 1940. They raised three children and lived and loved each other for 59 years, until Dan?s death in 1999.
Katie was preceded in death by her husband Dan, parents, Bessie and Marshall, and brothers, Phillip Dill, Winifred Dill, Claude Dill, Clinton Dill and sister Robbie Dill Massey.
Katie is survived by three children: James Morton, Milton Pete Morton, and Marolen Mullinax, all of Longview. Three grandchildren, Dana Maxey of Longview, Paul Maxey and wife Marisa of Kingwood, Texas; Shawn Morton and wife Michelle of Kilgore, Texas. Four great-grandchildren: Rebecca Morton, Jacob Morton, Tucker Maxey, and Cameron Maxey. A sister Betty Wynn and husband Emory of Mangum, Oklahoma, a brother Walter Dill and wife Jean of Duncan, Oklahoma. Two sisters-in-law: Hazel Morton and Jo Bevington of Jacksonville, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. Katie is also survived by the sweet new friends she found at Summer Meadows Nursing Home, especially Ms. Millie Harper. Katie and Dan Morton are both survived by the hundreds of former teenagers during the 1960?s and 1970?s who remember them from the Golden Point Drive Inn. Our mother loved to speak about and remember those special days and always said she would like to be remembered as ?Ms Golden Point.?
The family issues a sincere thank you to Dr. James Sawyer, the staffs of Summer Meadows Nursing Home and Hearts Way Hospice for the loving care that you offered our mother. The family also requests that instead of flowers, donations be made in Katie?s honor to the Greater Longview United Way, Box 411 Longview, TX. 75606 or to a charity of your choice.
