Kathy Marie Coates' Obituary
Katherine "Kathy" Marie Brown Coates, age 74 of Henderson, TX passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. She was born January 17, 1950 to F.L. (Joe) and Ida Marie (Sam) Brown in Austin, TX.
She was the second of three children, Jim, being the oldest and her sister, Yohanna (JoAnn). Kathy married her true love, Howard Ray Coates, Sr. of Henderson, TX on April 3, 1989. Howard had five children that she loved as her own. She grew up and had fond at Lake Striker, Kathy loved the water, skiing, knee boarding, and being outside with her siblings and cousins. She graduated from Henderson High School in 1967. She attended Lon Morris College and graduated from East Texas Barber College. In earlier years she worked numerous jobs, but working at the Boys Home and becoming a Barber were her favorites. She worked for the Hair Cottage of Henderson from 1983 to 1986.
Kathy and Ray loved vintage cars and had numerous ones they built over the years that they would take to car shows. The were members of Rolling Rods of East Texas and Morris County Street Rodders.
Kathy was adventurous and liked traveling. Trips to New York, Colorado, Jamaica, and Vegas were her most talked of memories. She enjoyed doing crafts and teaching others and baking. She was proud to support Neal McCoys Angel Network and Azleway Boys Home of Tyler.
Kathy's compassion and care to her puppies over the years led her to take on one more. She devoted a lot to her beloved Octavia, 5 year old female dog. That after losing her husband Ray, became her full time companion and best friend.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, F.L. and Ida Marie, her husband, Howard Ray Coates, stepdaughter, Susan Coates King and brother, Jim Brown.
She is survived by her sister, Yohanna and husband Johnny Jones, stepchildren; James and wife Pam Coates, Lisa and husband Gerald Davis, Howard R. Coates, Jr., Debbie and husband Glenn Huff, Charles Boyte and David Warren. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. As well as her niece, Elyan "Ellie" Rogers and her daughter Jordan Rogers, nephew, Justin Brown and numerous cousins, family members, and life long friends she had made over the years.
A memorial service celebrating Kathy's life will be held in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Henderson on Saturday, January 27 at 1 pm.
