Kathryn "Kathie" Lawson's Obituary
Kathryn “Kathie” Lawson of Longview, Texas passed away peacefully at home and went to be with her Lord on April 17, 2026, at the age of 91. Kathie was born on November 23, 1934, in Burkburnett, Texas to John Guy and Pearl Ann Hunt. Her parents later moved to a farm in Greenfield, Missouri. Growing up, Kathie loved to follow her father around the farm feeding and playing with the animals, especially the little lambs. She also spent her summers swimming in the limestone creek on their farm and later learned to roller skate in the barn. She loved being out in nature, but her second love was roller skating! She even skated well into her fifties, with her grandsons, and never broke a single bone! Kathie graduated from Greenfield High School in 1952 and was a Drum Major for the Drum and Bugle Corp. After graduating high school she moved to Dallas to work at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, as a telephone operator, and where she would meet her future husband, Charles Lawson. They were married August 27, 1953, and lived in Dallas with their daughters until 1970, when they moved to Longview and the piney woods of East Texas. Kathie enjoyed water skiing at Lake O’ The Pines and swimming with her grandsons in their pool when they were growing up. She and Charles also loved to take their grandsons snow skiing to different resorts in Colorado and New Mexico.
Kathie’s greatest joy was being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Known as “Memaw” by her grandchildren, and Mimi “K”, by her great-grandchildren, she loved being a part of their lives. She was a longtime member of the Winterfield Home and Garden Club, as well as part of a sewing circle. She loved to make clothes for her daughters when they were young, play the piano, work in her flower beds, sing in the church choir and stay active in her church. Kathie’s greatest accomplishment was becoming a Christian, and raising her daughters to know the Lord. She was joyful, kind-hearted and a bright light to lift up the people around her.
Kathie is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Charles Lawson, and her three sisters and one brother...whom she loved so much. Kathie leaves behind two daughters, Melanie Winter and her husband Russ, and Angela Lawson. Two grandsons, Jared Wyche and his wife Wayleen, and Rhett Wyche. Three great grandchildren, Mackenzie Carnahan, and her husband, Wesley, Colin Wyche and Lukas Wyche.
The family would like to thank the Prime Care Hospice team and Elite Essance Nurturing and Home Care for their amazing care and concern for Kathie.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mobberly Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
