Kathleen Murphy Huber's Obituary
Kathleen went to be with her late husband of 68 years on February 15, 2002 in Longview, Texas. She enriched the lives of everyone with whom she came in contact. She was a dedicated, loving wife, and mother. She had a quick wit and talent for both art and poetry. Excerpted from one of her favorite poems:
Has it been 68 years since I wed thee?
Seems like it was only yesterday to me.
I gazed into your warm brown eyes
And said ''Boy is he in for a surprise'' I said to myself
For I am his and he is mine
Not only for today, nor tomorrow but until the end of time?
She was born November 15, 1910 in Crandall, Texas, the daughter of Joseph Murphy and Mary Gibbs. She attended Highland Park High School in Dallas, Texas where she was captain of the women?s tennis and basketball teams. She also studied at SMU in Dallas. While at SMU, she began a life-long loving relationship with Edwin S. Huber whom she married on May 1, 1932.
She was nicknamed ''Winkie'' by her friends and ''Nannee'' by her 6 grandchildren. Winkie was a supporter of the Dallas Museum of Art and the Dallas Symphony, an avid golfer, and loving mother. Winkie was also known for her acumen as a Gin Rummy player.
We will dearly miss her witty stories about her childhood, her support and guidance, and her homemade apple pie. But most of all, we will miss her unselfish nature and gentle embrace.
Graveside services will be 3 PM Saturday, February 16 at Restland Cemetery in Dallas, Texas
under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
She is survived by her sister Mary Virginia Cheek, sons Edwin S. Huber Jr. and his wife Linda Bailey Huber of Austin, Chris Huber II and his wife Brenda of Longview, nephew Robert L. Sonfield Jr. of Houston, grandchildren Kimberly Huber, Brian Huber, Blake Huber, Russell Huber, Chris Huber III, Carolyn Ray and 11 great grand children.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Lung Association.
