Katie Salmon was the most genuine and authentic person you will ever meet. Her heart and motives were always pure. There were no pretenses or deception where Katie was involved. No mean spirited thoughts ever entered her mind. Katie always expressed what she felt; she didn't leave you guessing. She loved people. She cherished her family and friends, and never met a stranger. She loved life and all its simple joys, and she thrilled in sharing everything she loved with the people around her. What Katie loved, she wanted others to love. She exuded a childlike joy in simple daily living and childlike faith that Jesus was taking care of her.
Katie had a way of making every family member, friend, and even acquaintances realize they were loved and valued. She didn't hesitate to ask someone to pray for her or with her. She never tired of saying, "Mama, would you pray for...?" Or, to family and friends, "Would you pray for me and ask _______ (another relative or friend) to pray for me, too?" And we would gladly do as she asked; it was our honor to do so.
Katie was delighted to find others who loved her interests: Dr. Pepper, shopping (for baby dolls, CDs, purses), beading to make wind-chimes, Mexican food (especially Papacita's), McDonald's #7 breakfast meal, learning Spanish words and teaching them to others. She loved telling and laughing at jokes (especially literal knee-slappers); she had great comedic timing. She enjoyed watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Minnie Mouse, having her fingernails painted, and just about anything pink.
Katie had a talented ear for music, a beautiful singing voice, and an amazing memory for the lyrics of songs. She most loved to listen to bluegrass and old country music (especially her favorite, Loretta Lynn), the movie 'Coal Miner's Daughter' and her daddy's band, Silver Lining.
Katie had a wonderful appreciation for food. She was very vocal about it. What Katie felt, she made sure to express! Her contagious laughter spread through a room and into the hearts of everyone around her. Katie had such a caring, giving spirit. When she wanted to encourage someone and let them know how much she cared, she would let them know she was praying for them and then go to her craft room and lovingly create one of her beautiful, beaded wind chimes to share with them.
Katie leaves us a perfect example of a life well-lived. She loved big, laughed big, and shared her joy with everyone she met. In recent weeks she often asked, "Would you pray me what I'm going through?" What perfection-Katie's wisdom of life was simple and yet profound: We pray each other through the tough times. We are so thankful to our Gracious Lord for having shared His precious, priceless treasure with us... the treasure we all know as "Katie".
Funeral services for Katherine will be held at New Beginnings Church on Saturday at 10 am with a burial to follow at Rosewood Park. Visitation will be held at Rader Funeral Home of Longview Friday evening from 5 -7 pm.
