June Gillaspie Morgan's Obituary
June G. Morgan, age 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Longview Regional Medical Center. She was born June 1, 1933, in Carthage, to James and Odie (Alsup) Gillaspie. June had no siblings but lived a wonderful life growing up in Carthage with cousins, aunts/uncles, parents and her grandparents. While in high school and college, June was a beauty queen and was named Miss Panola County.
June attended University of North Texas and received her Bachelor’s degree in Library Sciences. With her degree, June became a special education teacher and was on the forefront of teaching children with learning disabilities.
Roy and June owned the Longview Credit Bureau until their retirement in the late 1980’s. They were both a members of the First United Methodist Church in Longview.
Preceded in death by her husband, Roy A. Morgan, and son, Jimmy (Shon) Pettey, June was known for being a strong woman and was loved by so many.
June (known as Mama Moose) is survived by her daughter-in-law, Teresa Allen, two grandchildren, Shon “Hunter” Pettey and daughter in law, Logan Pettey and Kassidy Allen, and 2 great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to attend the celebration of her life on Friday, June 4 at 11 am at the Rosewood Cemetery in Longview.
