Julie Ann Baxter's Obituary
Julie Ann Baxter passed away September 8, 2024, at her home in Longview, Texas after a four-year battle with cancer. Julie was born in Longview on September 12, 1963, to William (Bill) Baxter and Helen Duffey Baxter. She attended Longview schools, graduating from Longview High in 1982. Julie had the honor of being the Lobo mascot her junior and senior years. She received an associate degree from Kilgore Junior College before going on to Texas A&M.
After working in Dallas for several years, Julie joined the Marines. She was a few years older than most of the new recruits and a little tougher, so she quickly became a big sister figure to some in her barracks, helping them endure both boot camp and the fearsome drill Sargent. Already experienced in food preparation, she chose to continue in that field with pastry as her specialty. Her last place of employment before leaving for health reasons was as a chef at the Summit Club.
Julie was a member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church where she was active in the youth choir, mission trips, spring break ski trips and summer camps.
Julie had no kids of her own, but she thoroughly enjoyed her nieces, nephews, friend’s kids, and her pets. After the kids grew up, she lavished her love and attention on her dogs and cats, of which there were many through the years.
Julie was preceded in death by her father, Bill Baxter; her grandparents, Leonard and Ella Duffey, and her grandmother, Ella Baxter. She is survived by her mother, Helen Baxter of Longview; brother Keith Baxter and wife Gayla of Carrollton, TX; her brother, Kevin Baxter and wife Gayla of Kilgore, TX; her nephew Brian Baxter, wife, Melissa and daughter Madelyn of Lewisville, TX; nephew Blake Baxter, wife Kyla and son Cade of Melissa, TX; niece Blair Baxter of Austin, TX and niece Brooke Baxter of Carrollton, TX. Along with many first and second cousins and special friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 28 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Oakland Heights Baptist Church Family Life Center.
Heartfelt thanks go to her many caregivers from StayKare, especially to Dana Wilkins, Rhonda Pee, Amber Hill and their employer, Nancy Hooks. Also, thanks to the nurses, aides, and doctors at Heartsway Hospice, especially Dr. Julia Archer who spent extra time with Julie and the family answering questions and explaining what was going on and what to expect next. Their tender and compassionate care in her last weeks was much appreciated.
