I met Hank when I worked at PEI in the early '80s -- he was a legend already by that time, of course, but he was always gracious and nice to those of us who worked there. I think he was on the board or editor emeritus by then, of course, but he was around at meetings, etc. So happy to hear that he lived to such a ripe old age and thinking of his family.
Hank is my father's cousin (Marvin Kastrop) Hank's Dad and Marvin's Dad were brothers from Sealy. His visits with Shirley were welcomed and we enjoyed getting together and hearing about his sons and family. We will always remember those days and have many pictures of our times together. You all will be our thoughts and prayers during this time.
I didn't know Uncle Hank very long. In the short time I did have, he was an incredible person to be around. He is from "The Great Generation". Talking to Uncle Hank about his military days was very interesting. Hearing first hand how the war really was. What a generation. I met Uncle Hank at his niece's house, Sharon. He truly enjoyed his family and life. What a pleasure to be in his company.
Uncle Hank, even though our time was short, I already miss you.
Thank you for making me feel like family.
Sincerely,
Linda O. Reed and Ron Reed
