Julian B. ?Jack? Smith
Julian B. ?Jack? Smith passed away May 18, 2006 at the Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, TX. He was born in Kilgore, TX on April 3, 1927 to Samuel and Gladys Goforth Smith. He was preceded in death by both his parents and his brothers, Truman and Donald Smith.
He grew up on the family farm on Goforth Road in Gregg County and was a graduate of Sabine School in Liberty City. He was a WWII U. S. Navy veteran. Mr. Smith, known to many as ?Sundown?, had a long career as a heavy equipment operator beginning in the early 1950?s and retired at the age of 75 from Marion County Pct. 1.
He is survived by 5 children, Martin Glen Smith and wife Margaret, Samuel Smith, Margaret McCarty, Elizabeth Field and Gloria Scoggins; 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Jack, a devoted husband, was married to Clara Jane Webb Smith for 33 years and was a supportive father and grandfather to her children, Donna Worrell and husband Malcolm, Joyce Phillips and husband Richard, Janice Hart and husband Billy Wayne, Janie Yesford, John Webb, and Steve Webb; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
A family memorial service will be held at Mount Moriah Cemetery on Goforth Road Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at 1:30 p.m.
