Julia Fox Parks' Obituary
Julia Fox Parks passed away on Friday, July 3rd, 2009 in San Antonio, TX at 91years of age. Julia was born in Dandridge, TN on November 19, 1917. Growing up in the country during the Depression, Julia was one of the first female accounting graduates from the University of Tennessee. Not being able to obtain employment as a woman accountant she became the secretary to the president of Tennessee Eastman Company. While working there she met and married William Allen Parks, Sr. "Bill". Julia and Bill Parks married in 1948 and moved to Longview in 1951 where Bill helped build Texas Eastman. Julia and Bill were married for 53 years until he preceded her in death on June 3, 2000. Julia was a homemaker, mother, and grandmother extraordinaire.
Julia and Bill were faithful and dedicated members of First United Methodist Church in Longview, TX for over 50 years. In 1969, as a volunteer, Julia was the initial bookkeeper for Asbury House, a ministry for underprivileged children through her church and faithfully served in that position for 31years. In 1984, Julia and Bill were honored by Wiley College in Marshall, TX for substantial financial and active support. An honorary PhD by Wiley College was conferred upon Bill Parks. Julia had the ultimate servant's heart.
Julia is survived by her daughter, Roberta and her husband Tommy Cox of San Antonio and their children, Raymond Thomas Cox and Robert Allen Cox. Julia is also survived by her son, W. Allen Parks, Jr., and his wife Sarah of Houston, TX and their children, William Allen Parks, III, Julia Hodges Parks and Caroline Story Parks.
A Memorial Service honoring the unselfish Christian life of Julia Fox Parks will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 9th at First United Methodist Church of Longview, Texas.
