I lost my mom in December of 2018. I’m from Austin, so the service and visitation were there. Through a friendship born of decades of teaching English at Pine Tree High School next door to each other, Judi and I often talked about our mothers and how close we were to them. At my mother’s visitation, I looked up through my tears to see none other than Judi and Mance walk in. That sweet little thing maneuvered her way through the Tyler and D/FW airports - no easy feat for a healthy person, and Judi was anything but healthy. But she did it for me - to offer us comfort and show her love. Friends like this are rare indeed. She was my heart-sister, and I know she is to be celebrated, but that celebration must coexist with my heartbreak for now. I will miss her love, her sense of humor and her razor-sharp wit from now on. Life is a little less bright than it was when she was here.
