Juanita Gossett Cammack's Obituary
Juanita June Gossett Cammack, a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, in Longview, Texas, at the age of 87. Services will be under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview, Texas.
Juanita June Gossett Cammack was born on January 29, 1926, in Commerce, Texas, the second daughter of Junius Bragg Gossett and Elsie Louise Raynes Gossett. She married Noble G. Cammack on April 8, 1950, at the First Presbyterian Church in Commerce, Texas.
Juanita graduated from East Texas State Teachers College now Texas A & M-Commerce in May 1946. She majored in English and Spanish, was a gifted pianist, and also served as a violinist with the college orchestra. Juanita moved to Longview in January 1947, where she began her career as a sophomore English teacher at Longview High School. She taught until 1953 when she decided to retire and devote her time to her growing family. After her children were born and in school, she returned to the classroom in 1966 as a seventh grade English and Spanish teacher at Foster Middle School. She loved the teaching profession until her retirement in 1982. One of her greatest joys was visiting with her numerous former students during her retirement years.
A member of the First Christian Church in Longview since 1950, Juanita was also a member and former pianist of her beloved Cornerstone Sunday School class.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 63 years, Noble G. Cammack. She is also survived by her four children: a son, Kerry Noble Cammack and his wife, The Honorable Harriet Smith O'Neill of Austin; a son, Bruce Alexander Cammack and his wife, Mimi Garland Cammack of Longview; a son, Stephen Gossett Cammack and his wife, Kathy Wickersham Cammack of Round Rock, and a daughter, Teresa Anne Cammack Rice and her husband, Harold Loyd Rice, Jr., of Longview. She was loved and affectionately known as "Nini" to her thirteen grandchildren and step-grandchildren: Alan Blair Cammack, Stuart Clark Cammack, Dr. Clay Alexander "Alex" Cammack, Cole Garland Cammack, Randall Blake Cammack, Brittney Elizabeth Cammack, Kendall Alexis Rice, Casey Brooke Rice, Matthew Allen Tidmore, Jonathan Layne Tidmore, Brandon Taylor Tidmore, Carolina Lee O'Neill, and Hailey Holland O'Neill. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Harper Grace Cammack, Ada Elise Cammack, Jackson Vance Cammack, Owen James Dunn, and Julia Marie Tidmore. In addition, she is survived by her loving sister, Ida Louise Gossett Barr of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2013, at Rader Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held in the sanctuary of First Christian Church in Longview at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2013, officiated by The Reverend David Farmer. Burial will follow at Rosewood Park.
