My Daddy
My daddy’s hands could fix so many things
From cars and trucks to washing machines
He could build a motor and it would definitely spin
Or mow an overgrown field for a close knit friend
He could grow a lovely garden and walk in it for hours
Or fix what was broken with just a pair of pliers
He could sit and fish and enjoy a long boat ride
Or just sit in his lazy boy where he often went to hide
He could tell a country story that grew longer every year
Or tease you till you cried and pretend he didn’t hear
He could do the math to bend a pipe a few minutes is all it took
While college engineers marveled that he didn’t use a book
He quoted many sayings right up to the very end
Just after a prayer for comfort and peace he said…..Back your ears and dive in
He was a man of character whose heart was true and strong
We will surely miss him now that his soul is gone
Do not worry family and friends
He looks forward to seeing you in heaven …..
