JST McDowell's Obituary
J.S.T. McDowell, 94, of Longview, Texas, passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 9, 2005. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bess and Sam McDowell, his step-mother, Mae, his loving wife, Zanell Arnold, his son, John Timothy, Brothers S. M., Billy Joe, and Elwynn McDowell. He came to Longview in 1932, and was the owner/operator of Longview Electric Motor Co. from 1938 until 1994 when his health failed. He piloted his own plane during the 1940's, had three patents on devices he invented, was active in the Civitan Club, and served as a deacon and then elder in the Mobberly Avenue Church of Christ. He leaves behind Daughters Zanita T. Chastain, Anne Rush, and Eva Osbakken; grandchildren, Anneliese Patterson, John Scott McDowell, John Carlton McDowell, Michelle Pearce, Stephanie, Tommy, and Eric Osbakken, Great Grandchildren Sean Patterson, Christel Price, Shaine McDowell, Rachel Self, Ian Pitts, Hailey Sha McDowell, Emily Minnich, Maggie, Sophie and Sam McDowell, Sister, Toby May Harty, Brother, Jack McDowell, Aunt, Louise Taylor, Sister-in-law, Rita McDowell, ex-wife, D. Fern McDowell, as well as many other dear family members, loyal employees and friends. All will miss him. Family visitation is on Monday, June 13th from 6 to 8 PM. Services will be held Tuesday, June 14th at 2:00 PM, Pine Tree Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Harrison Street Church of Christ Library.
