Joyce Marie Miller's Obituary
Joyce Marie Miller, 91, went to be with the Lord on September 18, 2022.
She was born in January 26, 1931 in Rockland, Texas to William "Pat" and Alma Dean. At the young age of 12, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ at a revival then was baptized in the Neches River.
Joyce moved to Beaumont, Texas after graduating from High School, then attended and graduated from Business School. She began her career with American National Bank in Accounts Receivable over the next 17 years.
In 1952 Joyce met the love of her life, Dean Miller, on a blind date. What a wonderful life they would have together. Dean worked for Sun Pipe Line Company in Beaumont, Texas and was then transferred to Longview, Texas in the summer of 1970.
Church was always a priority in both of their lives. They soon discovered Oakland Heights Baptist Church and eagerly became members. Here they made many dear friends who still remain close today. As an active member of OHBC, Joyce served as an Outreach Leader in her Sunday School class for many years. She enjoyed singing God's praises in the church choir, and faithfully served on the Benevolence Committee and Flower Committee. She was also very active in Women In Missions and Baptist Women's Ministry.
Cooking was Joyce's passion, and those who knew her quickly discovered her talent. She would challenge herself by trying new recipes and perfecting old ones. Her home was always filled the aroma of home-made cooking. In addition to cooking and sharing food with friends and neighbors, she enjoyed traveling, with Europe being of her their favorite destinations. Joyce and Dean also enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with close friends.
Joyce was a strong woman of Faith who always put God first. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother who treasured her family. With a servant's heart, she made a positive difference in the lives of many and will be sorely missed.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Karen; her nieces Hilda Berryman, Frances Barker and husband Don, and Diane Letherman. She is preceded in death by her husband Dean, and 3 brothers Elza Dean, William J. Dean and Billy Joe Dean.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 23, 2022 at Rader Funeral Home from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at Oakland Heights Baptist Church on Saturday, September 24 at 2:00 pm. Joyce will be laid to rest in the Lakeview Mausoleum.
