Joyce Bander Davis passed away on November 14, 2013. She died as she lived – gently and gracefully.
Born on June 6, 1933 at Markham Hospital on South Center Street in Longview. Joyce was the youngest of three children of Joe and Exa Bander. Joyce lived the classic East Texas lifestyle, building and nurturing lifelong friendships. She was a graduate of The Hockaday School in Dallas where she practiced the poise and grace that would characterize her life. She also graduated as an education major at The University of Texas in Austin. She returned home to marry the love of her life, Robert F. Davis in the summer of 1955 and together she and Bob raised three children in Longview.
Joyce was passionate about making our community a better place and contributed as a member of the Longview Junior League, volunteer of the Good Shepherd Hospital Auxiliary and Meals on Wheels. She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church where she served in several capacities including a teacher at Trinity Day School.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husbands Bob Davis and Wright Johnson and brother Jody Bander. She is survived by her sister Marie; three children Kelly Davis Sosland, Robert F. Davis III, and Seleta Marie Davis; five grandchildren Rachel Katherine Sosland, Maddie Hughes, Bekah Sosland, Carly Davis and Lexi Davis; close friend and companion John Harrison and caregivers Evelyn Parker and Brenda Dupler.
Joyce was kind to all she knew and loved by all of us who knew her.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Monday, November 18, 2013 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Longview with Father Kevin Wittmayer officiating. Burial will follow in White Oak Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2-4 PM at the funeral home.
