Joyce Janiece Powell Baird's Obituary
Joyce Janiece Baird entered heaven on March 30, 2024, at the age of 90, just in time to celebrate Easter with her Lord Jesus and the angels of heaven.
She was born January 28, 1934 in Kilgore, TX, to Leonard and Vennie Powell.
On January 26, 1951, she married the love of her life, Charles “Pete” Baird and they were happily married for 57 years. Together they devoted their love and attention to their children, Charles and Linda.
She retired from Winn-Dixie Food Co. to enjoy quality time with her family. Janiece enjoyed working in the church and helping others in need. Cooking large family meals was her passion and would often share with other people.
Janiece was preceded in death by her parents, brother Rev. Buddy Powell, sister Mackie Yancey and her husband Charles “Pete”. Cherishing great memories of “Pop’s and Mamo” are son Charles and wife Karen Baird; daughter Linda Lee; grandchildren, Melanie Reed, Brandon and wife Heather Baird, Bryan and wife Wendy Baird; great-grandchildren, Kevin and wife Brooke Reed, Sarah Baird, Ella Baird and Taylor Baird; great-great-grandchild Brynleigh Reed.
Janiece accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior early in life and lived a faithful, devoted life for Christ. She was a spiritual cornerstone for her family, constant in prayer and giving encouragement to both family and friends.
A private family celebration of her life will be held at Rosewood Park in Longview. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hi-way 80 Rescue Mission or Wiseman Ministries House of Disciples.
