Joy Nell Woods Hancock's Obituary
Funeral services for Joy Nell Woods Hancock, 84, of Longview, will be 10 AM Friday at Woodland Hills Baptist Church with Reverend Charles Hunt officiating. Interment will be 12 Noon at Waldrop Cemetery, near Fair Play, TX., under the direction of Rader Funeral Home, Longview. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 PM.
Joy Nell Woods Hancock went to be with her Lord on July 7, 2009 at a local nursing center.
She was born to Thomas Monnie and Bessie Edna Brown Woods on June 20, 1925 in the Brooks Community between Carthage and Henderson. Mrs. Hancock graduated from Carthage High School and had worked for Thiokol Longhorn Ammunition Plant for 12 years and then worked for Hallsville High School cafeteria. She was a member of the Woodland Hills Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. C. Cecil Hancock, sons, Thomas Edward Austin and Timothy Lloyd Austin, step daughter, Nellie Jo Hobbs, brothers, J. Lloyd Woods, James Riley Woods and Philip Ray Woods, sisters, Cathryn Woods Roberts and Monnie Bess Woods Jones and son in law, Ronald J. Doty. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Hilda Austin Doty of Hallsville and Vicki Head and husband Darrell of Springfield, MO, daughter in law, Linda Ragland Austin of Santa Fe, NM, brother, John ?Bo? Woods of Deer Park , sister, Patsy Ruth Byerly and husband Paul of Beaumont, 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A devoted mother and grandmother, she will be greatly missed and loved forever.
