Joy Lanell Hicks' Obituary
Joy Lanell Hodges Hicks joined the love of her life in Heaven on July 19, 2017. She was born May 18, 1933 in Panola County to the late E.W. and Leelon Hodges (Manchaca), Joy married Claude Hicks on July 2, 1949 and they enjoyed a long and blissful marriage filled with lots of love for each other and their three children. Joy was a beloved mother to John, Kathie, and Daryl. Her favorite pastimes over the years included ceramics, taking the camper on different trips around the country, square-dancing, bird watching, spending time with her family playing games, and cooking for her family and friends. One of her special talents included water skiing without getting her hair or makeup wet. Joy also loved to sing in the choir at church and was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church of Mt. Enterprise, Texas. Joy is survived by her three children, John Hicks and wife Wendy, Kathie Wittner and husband Rickey, and Daryl Hicks and wife Darla; eight grandchildren, Katrina Lewis and husband Marshall, Amber Gorman and husband Chuck, John Hicks and husband Jason Starritt, Desiree DeFrance. , Krista LeBow and husband Casey, Daryl Ray Hicks and wife Mamie, Deanne Hicks and Taylor Lewis; 10 great-grandchildren and a number of other relatives and special friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday July 22, 2017 at 4:00pm in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home led by Brother Darrell Owens and Brother Dean Grigsby. Family visitation will be from 3:00pm until 4:00pm before the service
In lieu flowers, donations may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for their beloved Joy during her last five years, especially her wonderful caregivers and staff at Garrison Nursing Home, and Heart to Heart Hospice.
