Jose Refugio Lamas Montes' Obituary
Jose Refugio Lamas Montes passed away peacefully November 9, 2024, in Longview, Texas. He was surrounded by his loving children and their spouses. He was born August 14th, 1939, in Huejuquilla El Alto, Jalisco Mexico. He married Carmen Ruiz on July 22nd, 1965, and began their family. Together they immigrated fo the United States in 1972 to make a better life for their family. Their journey brought them to Longview where they made their home and raised their children.
Jose, better known as Cuco to friends and family, lived life to the fullest. He never met a stranger and loved spending Friday and Saturday nights dancing with Carmen at quinceaneras and weddings. Cuco was the chef at Gonzalos Mexican restaurant until his retirement. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. He was proceeded in death by his loving wife, his mother and father, and four siblings. Left to cherish his memory are his children and their spouses, Esther and Marc Bally of Longview; Maria and Frank Weedon of Longview; Lupe and Carlos Hernandez of Dallas; Carmen and Tom Bannister of Trophy Club; Francisco and Kelly Lamas of Oak Point; Silvia and Greg Pyron of Keller; and Mario and Christina of Whitehouse. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren; one great granddaughter; his younger brother, Salvador Lamas, and his wife Hilda along with numerous family members in South Texas, California, and Mexico. Visitation will be held Wednesday Nov 13th between 5-7 PM at Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Funeral Services will be Thursday, Nov 14th at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at 11 AM. There will be a rosary preceding the service at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at 10:30 AM.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Texas Oncology in Longview, Dr. John, Lindsey, Christy, Mary and Priscilla. Also, the family wishes to thank Dr. Diaz and his nurse Laura at The Center for Kidney Care in Tyler, and Caitlyn at Christus Infusion Center.
