Joie Florence England's Obituary
Joie England of Longview, Texas, passed away Friday, November 8, 2013, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview.
Mrs. England was born January 21, 1924, to Hugh and Florence Tomlinson in Birthright, Texas. She graduated from high school in Sulfur Springs, then moved to Commerce where she attended East Texas State Teacher's College. While in Commerce, she met Jack England in 1941 and they were married July 4, 1942.
During her husband's tenure in the Air Force, they relocated several times; eventually , leading them to Pittsburg, Texas in the early 1950's. Mrs. England was employed by Pittsburg ISD, where she was secretary to the superintendent, for several years. In 1956, they moved to Kilgore, Texas, where she became a secretary for Kilgore College. She remained there for the next 30 years, until her retirement, in 1986.
Mrs. England was a wonderful helpmate to her husband, Jack, always at his side during his many years as a well-loved East Texas band director. She has been named, "Band Sweetheart Forever", by former Pine Tree High School band students, who always considered her "family".
On September 20, 2006, Mrs. England was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years. Survivors include son, Richard England of Longview; daughter, Karen England Herron and husband Rick of Longview; grandson, Kollin Huddleston and wife Jessy of Longview; granddaughter, Lorri Parker and husband Ronnie of Kilgore; and granddaughter Kana Huddleston of Longview; as well as 7 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM, Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at Rader Funeral Home of Longview with Dr. Charles Barham officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM, Monday, November 11, 2013 at the funeral home.
