Johnny Ray "Jay" Potts Jr. of Longview, TX, was born on July 20, 1984, in Monroe, Louisiana, and passed away on January 17, 2025, at the age of 40 in Tyler, TX.
Jay grew up in Hallsville, TX, where he graduated in 2003. He truly embodied the belief that it is more blessed to give than to receive, and his generosity knew no bounds. Not only was he generous in life, but he also chose to be an organ donor, ensuring that his kindness would continue even in death.
As a devoted father, Jay cherished his two beautiful children, Kason and Rylee Potts who were the center of his world and his proudest accomplishments. He worked tirelessly to provide for them, ensuring they had the life they deserved. His vibrant personality and caring nature brought joy to every gathering, and he always prioritized the well-being of those he loved.
Jay had a smile that could light up any room, a great sense of humor, and a love for spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed playing pool, working on cars and fishing – hobbies he often shared with those closest to him. His enduring spirit was also reflected in his affection for his beloved dogs, Asta and Happy Tail.
Jay is survived by his children, Kason and Rylee Potts; his parents, Johnny and Dodie Potts, and Joe and Annette Hunt; his grandmother, Martha McPherson, and his five sisters: Shannon (Chad) Lee, Tabitha Sappington, Jennifer Brown, Lakrisha Steward, and Kelly (Erick) Yarbrough. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews: Justin Lee, Kevin Ward, Kameron Sappington, Nick Brown, Jordan Steward, Declan Yarbrough, Krista Metts (Jonathan), Brooke Garcia (Luis), Kelsi Daniel (Fisher), Kayla Lee, Angel Ward, Kyra Steward, Piper Brewer, as well as a great-niece, River Daniel. In addition to his immediate family, Jay is remembered fondly by his aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Jay’s warm spirit and unwavering support touched countless lives. His legacy of love and kindness will live through his children and the memories shared by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing and inspire us to carry forward his values of generosity and love.
A funeral service for Jay will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
