Johnnie McCune's Obituary
Johnnie McCune was born August 12, 1938 in Linden, Texas to Tom and Audra Zilks.
She attended Atlanta High School in Atlanta, Texas where she proudly served as a cheerleader for the Rabbits. After graduating from high school, she soon met and married Ron McCune. They were married for almost 62 years before Ron’s passing only two months ago.
In their many years together, Ron and Johnnie enjoyed traveling extensively together. They especially loved the many cruises that took them to different parts of the world. Johnnie often proclaimed that she was fortunate to be married to her best friend and that they always had a great time together regardless of the situation, whether it was sitting at home together or experiencing an exotic location.
Johnnie was the mother to two children; her son Doug McCune who is married to Lee Ann and daughter Kelly Tubbs who is married to David Tubbs. Johnnie has two beautiful granddaughters, Jordan McCune and Audrey Jones of whom she was always very proud and was eager to brag about. Always at Johnnie’s side was her beloved dog Mylee Jo.
After raising her children, Johnnie fulfilled a lifelong passion by earning a nursing degree. This led to lifelong friendships with the many doctors, nurses, and patients with whom she worked and served during the course of her nursing career. Johnnie also spent many years providing loving, unyielding care to Ron as he fought his battle with cancer.
Visitation will be Thursday June 21, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home of Longview. A memorial service will be held Friday June 22 at 10:00 a.m. at Greggton United Methodist Church, 1101 Pine Tree Road, Longview, TX, 75604.
