John Anton Zitek
John Anton Zitek, 81, of Longview, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 20, 2016. He was born on October 13, 1934 in Burns, Wyoming to Anton and Julia Zitek.
John served in the United States Air Force for four years and while stationed in South Carolina, he met Shirley Jeffcoat. They were married in 1956 and in 1961, they moved from South Carolina to Longview, Texas residing here for the remainder of their lives.
During those years, he was a member of Unity Missionary Baptist Church where he served as church treasurer, Hallsville First Baptist Church where he taught the teenage boys’ Sunday School class, and Longview Missionary Baptist Church.
John was a CWA member and he retired from AT&T as a craftsman in 1987 after 31 years of service. He lived a full life as a husband and father and will be sorely missed.
Those left to cherish his memories are his children Ann Jolley and her husband Dewey, Joe Zitek and his wife Anne, Julie Smith and her husband David, grandchildren Kiri Levvis and her husband Justin, Renee Norred, Mari Chumley and her husband Tim, Allison Zitek, and great-grandchildren Gracie, Katie, Emma, Easton and Hunter.
John’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Zitek, his sister, Betty Ann Zitek, his wife, Shirley, and his granddaughter, Robyn Jolley Looper, all precede him in passing.
Friends are invited to join the family for a celebration of John’s life on September 22, 2016 from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm in the fellowship hall of Longview Missionary Baptist Church.
Cremation arrangements are under the care of Rader Funeral Home in Longview.
