JOHN W. CARY
Services for John W. Cary ,87, of Longview will be 10 AM Friday, February 22nd at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel, 1617 Judson Rd. with Rev. Johnathan Jehorek and Dr. W.D. ''Bill'' O?Neal officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Tim Konvalin. Burial will be Monday, February 25th at the Mission Park Cemetery-South in San Antonio. Mr. Cary died Monday, February 18th at Summer Meadows Nursing Home in Longview.
He was born April 7, 1914 in Paris, Texas to Loy Renwick and Alice Early Cary and moved to San Antonio in 1922, his home until moving to Longview in 1968 to become vice-president and CEO of the First Federal Savings & Loan Association. He retired in January, 1983 and remained as an Advisory Director to the Board of Directors for a number of years.
Mr. Cary graduated from The University of Texas in Austin in 1936, with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. He was in the insurance business until January, 1942 when he enlisted in the army as a private. He was a Captain in the Finance Department of the 315th Bomb Wing of the 20th Air Force on Guam when he terminated his military service in February of 1946
He then began his career in the savings and loan business in San Antonio. He was the past director of the Texas Savings and Loan League and served on committees of the U.S. Savings and Loan League. Mr. Cary was active in Longview community affairs. He was past president of the Longview Lions Club, past director of the Longview Home Builders Association, past director and treasurer of the Longview Chamber of Commerce, past director of the United Way, past director of the Longview YMCA and was an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Longview. Mr. Cary was an accomplished musician and saxophonist having played with his high school band and the University of Texas Band.
John was a kind and loving husband and father and is survived by his wife Helen of Longview; son and daughter-in-law, Dwight Alan and Marilyn Cary of Austin; Daughter, Cynthia Lee Cary of Makawha, Hawaii; grandson, Joshua Dwight Cary of Austin. Other relatives include Ella Mae Early Albright of Tucson, Arizona and Cary McConnaughey of Amelia, Virginia.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Paul Painter, John Ziegler, D.A. Benton, Ron Womack, Jack Moore, Charles Bellatti, Halen Lee, and Earl Prince. Those desiring to do so may make memorial contributions to the First Presbyterian Church of Longview , the Longview Lions Club, or to a charity of choice.
