Rev. John Robert Taylor Jr.'s Obituary
Funeral services for Rev. John Robert Taylor, Jr., 83, of Hallsville, will be held at 10 AM Friday, June 20, 2014 at Hallsville First Baptist Church with Dr. Monty Pierce and Rev. Randy Babin officiating. Burial will follow at 4 PM at Parker Cemetery in Grapeland, Texas. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Rev. Taylor passed away Sunday evening at his home in Hallsville. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
John Robert Taylor was born on May 8, 1931 in Grapeland, Texas to John Robertson “Pat” Taylor and Edith Estelle Bean Taylor. He was married to the love of his life, Amelia Ann Smith, on July 6, 1956. Bro. Taylor was a graduate of Grapeland High School, East Texas Baptist College, and received his Masters of Divinity from Southwestern Theological Baptist Seminary. He pastored Baptist churches for a total of sixty four years, in cities including Conroe, Marshall, Taft, El Campo, and Hallsville, Texas. Bro. Taylor had the joy of finishing his lifelong dedication to pastoring with the loving congregation at County Line Baptist Church of Harleton, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Neta Taylor Richards. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Amelia Ann Taylor; his children and their spouses Melanie Hudson and husband Darrell, Edith Benton and husband Byron, Judy Foster and husband Ricky, and John Taylor and wife Karen; 11 grandchildren and 5 chosen grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; his sister, Bernadine Taylor Lumpkin; his beloved dog and 2 cats.
The family request that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Heart to Heart Hospice of Longview, East Texas Baptist University, or Gideon’s International.
