John Richard Borens' Obituary
John Richard Borens of Longview, TX passed away Tuesday March 6, 2012 on his 83rd birthday at a long-term care facility in Longview. A visitation is scheduled on Sunday, March 11th, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Rader Funeral Home, Longview with the Recitation of the Rosary to follow at 7:00pm. His Mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Hollybrook Drive, Longview on Monday, March 12th, at 10:00am. Services will conclude at the church.
John R. Borens was born on March 6, 1929 in Spencer, Wisconsin. He was ordained as a Deacon in the Catholic Church in June of 1987 at St. Mary's and served there until his retirement. In that capacity, Deacon John had the privilege of officiating at a number of his grandchildren's baptisms and performed marriage ceremonies for two of his children. He touched many lives through his service at St. Mary's Church. Prior to working in the church, John retired from Marathon LeTourneau as a purchasing agent. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, setting an example of a strong work ethic, honesty, loyalty, and selfless service.
He is survived by his Loving wife Louise, of 61 years, and their seven children, Dean Borens Kate of Rothschild, WI; Maureen East Richard, Mary Waits Allen, and John S. Borens Laura, all of Longview; David Borens Brenda of Spring, TX; Ruth Martin Ken of Austin, TX; and Jean Harris Dan, currently living overseas. John also leaves behind 16 grandchildren – Rachel and Michael Borens; Jessica Nix Damon; Staff Srgt Joshua East Kodi; Tiffany and Zachary Borens; Matthew and Amanda Waits; Sarah, Kyle, and Marissa Martin; Aaron, Logan and Tia Harris; and Macy and Peyton Borens. In addition, John's legacy continues with three great-grandchildren – Lydia and Anniston Nix; and Harper Leigh East. His extended family includes three sisters and one brother and their families, all living out of state.
In lieu of flowers, donations for Diaconate formation can be sent to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Longview, TX in his honor. Arrangements are under the care of Rader Funeral Home, Longview.
