John Chrysostom Pereira's Obituary
John Chrysostom Reginald Pereira, affectionately known as Johnny, was called to his eternal rest on October 1st, 2024, at the age of 86. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family. John was born in Bandra, Bombay, India in 1938, to Marina Gonsalves and Manuel Pereira. He was the eldest grandchild of the family, a loving big brother to (late) Joseph, Bernadette (Celestine) and (late) Bosco (Doris). He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Maria (nee DeSouza); children Joan (Conrad), Manuel (late Sonya) and Patrick (Griselda); Grandchildren Sarah, Noah, Hannah (Tristan), Haley and Matthew; and great granddaughter Oleander.
John attended St. Stanislaus School, Bandra and St. Michael School, Mahim followed by Technical Studies at VJTI, Bombay. He began his career with Air India, also representing them internationally in Soccer and Field Hockey. In the mid-70s, he joined Kuwait Airways, moving to Kuwait to successfully build and secure a bright future for his growing family.
After retiring in the late 90s, John and Maria moved to the United States of America to be close by to their children and new grandchildren. He spent the rest of his life devoted to his faith and family, sharing and imparting the gift of his multitude of talents, skills, ingenuity, wisdom and quiet strength. His legacy will forever be cherished and will live on in all those whose lives he touched.
Visitation and Holy Rosary for John will be on Saturday, October 12th at 1:30pm CST at Saint Matthew Catholic Church, 2800 Pine Tree Road, Longview, TX 75604-1647
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 2pm, followed by the Rite of Committal of John’s cremains in the church’s Columbarium Garden.
Currently the Church does not have WiFi in the Sanctuary, however we are working on alternatives to live-stream the Services. We will inform you as soon as we have any details. If live-streaming is not possible, we will provide a link after the Services for you to review the recording.
