John Harold Norwood's Obituary
John Harold Norwood, 26, of Longview, Texas, passed away October 18, 2014 in Lovington, New Mexico. Visitation will be 1:00 pm followed by the funeral service at 2:00 pm at Oakland Heights Baptist Church on Friday, October 24, 2014 with Brother Butch Tanner officiating. Burial will be at the Davis Cemetery in Henderson, Texas. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
John was born in Longview, Texas to Randy and Kathy Norwood on December 28, 1987. He graduated with honors from Longview High School in 2006. He was a natural athlete and was accomplished in every sport he was involved in. He went on to get degrees at Tyler Jr. College and Kilgore College. He was currently in New Mexico working in the oil & gas industry as an operator.
John was a very caring person with a real heart for children. He loved taking his nephews and nieces in the yard to practice their soccer and baseball. He was looking forward to teaching them to play tennis. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing, and helping his grandfather on the farm in Louisiana every chance he got. He was always willing to serve people and volunteered several times at area soup kitchens and relief programs. He spent one of his spring breaks repairing a neighborhood after the destruction from tornadoes. His faith in God was amazing and he read his Bible daily. One of his goals was to go to Israel to walk where Jesus walked.
He is survived by his parents, Randy and Kathy Norwood; grandparents Harold and Winona Funk living in DeRidder, Louisiana, sister Laura (Norwood) Toro and her husband Rafael living in Bronx, New York, brother David Norwood and his wife Christine living in Katy, Texas and sister Josie (Norwood) Barclay and her husband Jesse living in Amarillo, Texas. He is also leaving behind adoring nephews and nieces: Dara Toro, Caleb Norwood, Easton Norwood, Leila Norwood, Brookelynn Barclay and Channing Barclay. He is leaving behind many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. His grandparents John T. and Catherine (Kitty) Norwood welcomed him into Heaven.
Pallbearers will be Adam Bryan, Rick Fisher, Darryl Fisher, Jesse Barclay, Rafael Toro and David Norwood.
