John Cowden Murphy's Obituary
John Cowden Murphy, 82, passed away on April 4, 2017. Memorial services will be 11 am Saturday, June 10, 2017 in the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Rosewood Park with full U. S. Navy Military Honors
Mr. Murphy was the son of Martha and James Murphy of Longview, Texas. John was born in Longview, Texas on August 31, 1935. He was a graduate of Longview High School and Texas A&M University. Captain Murphy, USN, served in the United States Navy for more than 26 years as a P-3 aircraft pilot, Squadron Commander, Naval Station Commanding Officer and aircraft Program Manager. After his retirement, John worked in engineering management in the commercial sector.
John loved to travel throughout the US following his daughter to curling competitions. He thoroughly enjoyed sailing on cruise ships around the world. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, the Men's Republican Parties in Longview and Pinehurst, NC and actively supported the Longview, Norfolk, VA, and Pinehurst, NC symphonies. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Murphy Nash of Longview.
