John William McCall's Obituary
Born in Dunedin, Florida, on 8 Jun 1953, John McCall, of Longview, Texas, entered the house of the Lord on March 8, 2026.
John carried a stubborn independence through life that those who knew him would recognize instantly. In high school, he played drums in the band, where he met his future wife, Kathy. The hobby blossomed into a lifelong love of music and a marriage that lasted over 50 years. John served 20 years in the United States Army, a chapter of his life he spoke of with quiet pride. After his military career, he worked as a medical laboratory scientist, bringing the same discipline and attention to detail to his civilian work. Outside of work, John enjoyed Dungeons & Dragons, role-playing video games, and cooking, pursuits that gave him a chance to tinker, strategize, and amaze people with his culinary skills. He was known to friends and family as a curmudgeon—and proud of it—but those who knew him well understood the humor and loyalty behind the rough edges.
He leaves behind his loving family, a closet full of unpainted miniatures, and a few discussions he was just about to win. John is survived by his wife Kathy, his brother Rob, his sister Marie, his daughter Jennifer Bartlett and her husband Eddie, and his grandson Jon. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Sara McCall.
In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated, and no service will be held.
