John L. Whitley's Obituary
. Funeral services for John L. Whitley, 93, of Laneville, will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 15, 2009, at the Laneville Methodist Church. Burial , with military honors, will be in Laneville Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Henderson.
Mr. Whitley died Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Henderson Memorial Hospital.
He was born January 28, 1916 in Laneville to James Floyd and Jennie Satterwhite Whitley. He was owner of a grocery and feed store for many years, a cattleman, a substitute mail carrier, school bus driver, and an avid gardener. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the Laneville Methodist Church.
Mr. Whitley was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Frances Buckner Whitley, in 2007; brothers, Sam, James Floyd, and Ray Whitley.
Surviving are daughters; Janie Tolbert of Tyler, and Peggy Johnson and husband David of Deer Park; four grandchildren, Stacey Coats, Jennifer Romines, Jeff Johnson, and Corey Johnson; 12 great grandchildren; nieces , nephews, and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Johnson, Corey Johnson, Eddie Whitley, Sam Jack Whitley, Floyd Whitley, and Micah Johnson.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home
