John Goodwin Blair's Obituary
Services for John G. Blair , 77, of Longview will be 4 PM Thursday, February 12th at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Dewayne Beaty and Dr. William Everett officiating. Burial will be in the St. George Greek Orthodox Community Cemetery at Shreveport under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
John passed away on Monday, February 9th at Good Shepherd Medical Center. He had been a resident of Longview for 50 years. His wife of 52 years is the former Helen Alexander of Longview. John was born in Parkersburg, Iowa May 14, 1926 to Dr. Raymond and Sue Goodwin Blair. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, joining the day after he graduated from high school. After returning from service, he attended LeTourneau Technical Institute in Longview and was a member of the school?s first graduating class. John owned the Fourth St. Texaco station for many years and was an employee of the City of Longview for 15 years. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church and a member of the Jubilee Sunday School Class and a former Sunday school teacher. John was a licensed private pilot and loved his hobby of flying. He was also a supporter of the Longview Symphony.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Alexander Blair of Longview; sons, Alex of Tyler and Chris of Longview; daughter, Athena Sue Blair Cajos of Guatemala; grandchildren: Stefan, Christa, Asher, Britton, Aria, Aleck, Garrett, Peter, and Alexa Blair; nephew and wife, Joe and Carol Blair of Mars Hill, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elizabeth Blair; and brother, Raymond Blair.
Memorial gifts in John?s honor may be made to the First Baptist Church of Longview, the Lottie Moon Christmas Fund, or to the Longview Symphony.
Honorary pallbearers are to be members of the Jubilee Sunday School Class along with Tommy Davis, David Richardson, and James Smith.
