John Harrison Godwin's Obituary
John Harrison Godwin, born on November 3, 1939 in Lake Charles, LA. He graduated from Orange Field High School in 1957, where he played all sports. He attended East Texas State in Commerce where he played football for the Lions during their Tangerine Bowl Championship. He married the love of his life, Sandra Ready of Hallsville.
He is survived by his wife Sandra Godwin; daughter and husband, Darla and Kevin Denby of Hallsville; grandsons, Dalton and his wife Christina Brister of Hallsville and Brandon Brister of Hallsville; sister and brother in law, Dr. Frank and Eda Rudeseal of Jemison, AL.; sisters in law, Norma Godwin and Loraine Godwin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by; father and mother, Willis Herman and Priscilla Godwin of Orange, TX.; sister, Carolyn (Doll) Basone of Gulfport, MS.; brothers, Willis Herman (Bill) Godwin of Hemphill, TX. And Gary Godwin of Lufkin, TX; sister and brother in law, Sidney and Charline Dauphin of Silsbee, TX.
John was a member of the Masons’ Scottish Rites, Shriners, and Captain of the Sharon Temple Mounted Patrol of Tyler.
His biggest hobby was horses. He belonged to the A.C.H.A, National Quarter Horse Association, and the N.C.H.A. He was President of the Oil Belt Cutting Horse Association. He became Champion of the A.C.H.A. in Waco.
John was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a co-founder of the Trails End Cowboy Church of Hallsville.
John favorite saying was: Be Sweet.
A Celebration of John’s life will take place at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Longview on Friday, May 17, 2019 beginning at 1:00 PM with a committal service to take place at Memory Park Cemetery immediately following the service. The family will receive friends and loved ones for a time of visitation from 5:00 PM till 7:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.raderfh.com
