Dear Clarabelle and family, This is almost too difficult to write. How can one man make such a huge impact on one's life? I'm reminded of pecans at Christmas and Blue Bell Peppermint in the summer and cards year-round fit for royalty. I saved so manyJohn’s wit was as alarming as a T-sip's wit could be. His extreme attention to detail was humbling. His flair for calling it as it was - was brilliant. What will we do without him? He took care of his bride until the day he died. Of all things he did, I respect him mostly for that single reason. Secondly, he did more for our opera company than anyone could do. And that was just a small part of this friend's life of work and service. I will miss him greatly. But mostly I'll miss him when I need him. He was ALWAYS THERE FOR ME, even when I didn't know I needed him. I am lovingly and forever a fan. Bravo, John. P.S. I hope your room in heaven is MAROON! We meet John and Clara the lady in pink when my parents, Fred and Sarah Sledge, lived across the street from them in Longview. Both were such full of life. We loved visiting with them and we still kept in touch after all of these years.
You always knew when you received something in the mail from them because of John's beautiful handwriting.
John will be greatly missed.

We were neighbors and friends with John and Clara for a couple of years in the late 1980s. We shared many good tmes with them and continued to visit with them after we moved. Clara and Sarah loved Blue Bell Pepermint ice cream and John would call Blue Bell to find when they were going to produce it so the ladies could fill their freezers with it. We have many fond menories of our friendship with them.

John was avery special person to me. Being a next door neighbor for 20+ years, one who loves Texas with a passion, a felow Civil Engineer. a veteran of WWII, one who has a love for and a sense of duty to this great country, a compatriot member of The Texas Society Of Peofessional Engineers, an outdoor guy that loves to work in the yard, a common sense conservative in so many ways.....I could go on, but you can understand why we connected so. He was a Longhorn and I am one of those Fighting Texas Aggies, thus we shared and appreciated each others love and passion.
John's passing leaves a large hole in my heart, and I will miss him tremendously.
Mary's and my prayers are with you all.##imported-begin##Wayne Dolive##imported-end##

To the family of John Owens
We want to take this time to say what a pleasure it was to know John and work with him through Opera East Texas, being on the board with John was a delight and we were always happy to be around him and Claire. The word that always came to our minds was "precious". He will be greatly missed by John and I.##imported-begin##Judi Morgan##imported-end##
John was a profoundly respected person when I joined the Armco team many years ago. When I first met him he gave me confidence that I had made the right decision and that we had a great product and service to provide to our customers.##imported-begin##Bob Reno##imported-end##
