He is also survived by his parents, B. W. and Martha Ferrell of Garland, Texas. His sister, Joanna Ferrell Jewett, lives in Arp, Texas; his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Carol Ferrell, live in Rowlett, Texas; and his sister and brother-in-law, Pamela and Mark Fetzer, live in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
John was born in Linden, Texas on January 18, 1954. He was raised in Garland, Texas and attended Garland High School until he graduated in 1972. He went on to attend Stephen F. Austin State University and went on to pursue a career in sales and management, which led him to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
While in Oklahoma, John met the love of his life, Mary. They married March 15, 1980 in Moore, Oklahoma and eventually they lived in Texarkana. The following year they moved to Kilgore, Texas where they stayed through the first years of their daughter’s life, and then John became the manager of the Brooks Well Service yard in Panola, Texas. Ryan was born in 1987. John was active in his children’s activities, and served on the Elysian Fields Youth Committee, and coached little league baseball. He was active in Golden Rule EPC where he served as an Elder. His hobbies included gardening, fishing, and hunting. No matter where he lived, his well-manicured yard was his pride. John continued to work in the oilfield business for 30 years until he left it in 2014. John and Mary moved to Longview in 2010, and they joined the Longview EPC. He continued his hobbies until he became ill earlier this year.
The family would like to thank the staff of Longview Regional Medical Center and the Heart to Heart Hospice staff for all of their dedicated care and support during the time of illness.
Visitation will be held at Rader Funeral Home of Longview on Judson Road from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, May 6.
