Funeral Services for John Ehrenholm Bloomberg, of Longview, will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, June 25, 2002 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview, 1617 Judson Road. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery. Mr. Bloomberg proudly served his country in the European Theater during World War II in the U.S. Army Armored Infantry. He was awarded the Purple Heart. For his service, Mr. Bloomberg will receive full Military Honors Presented by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Texas Post 10373, from Jefferson, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Monday evening, June 24, 2002 at the Funeral Home. Those unable to attend may sign an online memorial book at www.raderfh.com in the obituary section.
Mr. Bloomberg was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on January 10, 1916, to John Nathaniel and Bertha Christine Ehrenholm Bloomberg. He attended Minneapolis schools and graduated from West High School in 1936.
He married Callie Stovall on June 17, 1945 , in Tyler, Texas. He grew up working in building and land development with his father. In 1950 he formed John E. Bloomberg, Inc. and developed various projects in and around Minneapolis including Colonial Grove, Idylwood Addition, Berkshire Townhouses and Prairie Motel and Restaurant. Upon moving to Longview in 1975 he built a limited number of custom residences and duplexes.
Mr. Bloomberg became a member of the Church of Christ in 1945 and served congregations at Prospect Park, Minneapolis Central, Richfield, MN and Alpine in Longview. At Richfield he was a charter member and served as an elder from 1963 through 1975. As a demonstration of his faith in his Lord he constructed the Richfield Church of Christ building in 1959 and also contracted the 1980 expansion of the Alpine Church of Christ donating his time and talents.
After retirement in 1980 he built a lake house at Bob Sandlin Lake where he enjoyed his lifelong love of fishing. He also enjoyed traveling, visiting friends and family.
He was diagnosed with Alzheimer?s disease in 1995 and has received nursing home care since June, 1998
He is survived by his loving wife, Callie and three children :daughter Margaret Alice Ward of Longview, son Charles Richard Bloomberg and his wife Mary of Grapevine, and daughter Nancy June Baugh and her husband, Craig of Stafford, VA. He is also survived by two brothers, Herbert Bloomberg and his wife Carol, and Richard Bloomberg and his wife, Oliva, all of Chanhassen, Minnesota., and one sister Ann Ohlsen and her husband Dr. Kermit Ohlsen of Waconia, MN. He also has five grandsons, Luke Ward of Moses Lake, Washington, Rodger Ward of San Diego, California, Larry Baugh and his wife Amy of Denver, Colorado, Scott Baugh of Searcy, Arkansas, and Timothy Baugh of Stafford, VA, and one granddaughter, Callie Joy Ward, of Temecula California and several nieces and nephews.
The family has requested that memorials may be made to the local chapter of
Alzheimer?s Association, 3613 South Broadway, Suite 401, Tyler, Texas, 75701.
