John Davis' Obituary
John ?Tommy? Davis , 57, of Longview lost his battle with cancer on May 15th at his home. Tommy was born June 23, 1946 in Pioneer, Louisiana to Durard and Edna Davis. He was the 7th of 11 children and was raised with a strong sense of family and hard work to provide for them
After the death of his father, he started farming to help support his mother and siblings. Tommy later came to Longview where he went to work for LeTourneau and later started his own steel building erection company with his brother-in-law, Fred Acree. He later went to work for CenterPoint Energy where he retired after 21 years.
Tommy met and soon married Phyllis Baxter of Greenville, Texas on May 29, 1965. The have two daughters and five grandchildren. Tommy?s greatest love was his family and friends. Then came gardening and woodwork from which many people benefited. Tommy had a strong faith and integrity that was shown by friends who would come to him for advice or just to talk.
Tommy is survived by his wife of 39 years, Phyllis; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Danny Tarkington, Tina and Jimmy Hickman; mother-in-law, Tommie Baxter; grandchildren: Chad, Mikala, and Nikalos Tarkington
Dakota and John Hickman; 7 sisters; 2 brothers; several nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends and a special friend, Gloria Hetchler.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, D.W. Davis and a nephew, Kenneth Mann. Pallbearers will be Kerry Benefield and his co-workers from Centerpoint.
Graveside services will be 10 AM Tuesday, May 18th at Rosewood Park Cemetery with Michael Howard officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM Monday at Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Rd.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ?Margaret?s House? in care of Greater Hospice of Texas. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Margaret and the staff of Greater Hospice of Texas.
