John Christian Stock's Obituary
STAFF SERGEANT JOHN CHRISTIAN STOCK
Staff Sergeant John Stock was born on February 26, 1981 in Longview, Texas. He joined the United States Marine Corps at MCRD San Diego. After his graduation Recruit Training, he went on to complete Marine Combat Training before continuing his MOS training to become AAV Mechanic 2141. During his time as a 2141 with 3d AABN, SSgt Stock deployed on a UDP to Okinawa for 15 months. After his initial four years of service, SSgt Stock tried his hand at civilian life before he joined back into the Marine Corps where he was then assigned as the Platoon Sergeant of Headquarters and Services Platoon. After volunteering to join a line company knowing he would deploy to Iraq, SSgt Stock was appointed to Second Platoon Bravo Company where he was the Maintenance Chief. SSgt Stock participated in the pre-deployment training program with Second Platoon to include Mojave Viper before deploying to Operation Iraqi Freedom in support of 1st Battalion, 3d Marines. While serving with Bravo Company Second Platoon, SSgt Stock acted as a Section Leader. His awards include; the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, the National defense Service Medal, the Iraqi campaign medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
SSgt Stock was a graduate of Longview High School, a member of the LHS Varsity Swim Team, became an Eagle Scout at age 15, and an avid soccer player having played for the U.S. Marine Corp team. He was a devoted father and husband who would spend a lot of time talking about his family and enjoyed lifting weights and cooking, mostly BBQ. His Platoon Commander noted that he wanted to put hot sauce on absolutely everything.
SSgt Stock is survived by his wife, Lindsey of Longview; sons, Levin Still and Wyatt Stock of Longview; parents, Gwen and Jerry Stock of Longview; brother, Tony Stock of Cibolo, Texas; sisters, Megan Palla of Clovis, New Mexico, Erin Barnes of Enid, Oklahoma, Clara and Lily Stock of Longview; grandparents, Gerald and Jeannette Stock of St. Joseph, Missouri; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Buddy and Karen Tyner of Longview; Sgt Erik Cunningham, currently serving in Iraq and unable to attend, his best friend and Godfather of Wyatt, and numerous other relatives.
Visitation and prayer vigil will be held Friday, September 14th 6:oo PM to 8:oo PM at St. Mary?s Catholic Church, 2108 Ridgewood Dr in Longview. The Rosary will be recited at 11:30 AM Saturday with Mass following at Noon at St. Mary?s. Burial, with full military honors, will be at Rosewood Park under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
