John Edward Booth's Obituary
Funeral services for John "Jack" Edward Booth, 80, of Longview will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Private burial with full Military Honors for family only at Rosewood Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited at 7 pm, Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Chapel at Rader Funeral Home with visitation from 6:30 to 8 pm. He passed away Sunday, January 19, 2014 in his home with his loving wife of 58 years and his three children present along with his son-in-law and grandchild.
John Booth was born June 25, 1933 in Olyphant, Pennsylvania to Harry and Pauline Sumra Booth. He graduated from Olyphant High School in 1951 and joined the Air Force. His Air Force career enabled him to go from an Air Craft Mechanic to Mechanical Engineer and travelling all over the United States with one overseas assignment in the United Kingdom, always accompanied by his wife and family. He received many accolades in the Air Force with countless medals, ribbons, distinguished service, and Honorary Discharge after 22 years’ service and constant College courses both institutional and correspondence. Following his military retirement he worked at Brunswick Lanes, Syracuse China, and the Union Pacific Railroad before becoming a Letter Carrier for the Postal Service in Marshall, Texas, then moving to Scranton, Pennsylvania and finally settling in Longview, Texas where he retired after 20 years. Mr. Booth then became a co-owner in Textype, Inc. operating the office supply store and repairing typewriters and helping his wife and daughter in operating Woodbine Mortgage. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He enjoyed bowling all his life and was on the Air Force Bowling Team. After his service he went on to bowl two 300 games, a 299 and 298. He also enjoyed family, travelling, fishing, playing baseball and softball, golfing, watching his favorite sports teams and playing with the loyal family dog. After his retirement from Textype and Woodbine Mortgage he and his wife travelled extensively always making time for family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Margaret A. Harber Booth of Longview, Texas, his three children, John E. Booth of Karnack, Texas , Deborah Booth Heaberlin of Longview, Texas, and James Booth of Mesquite, Texas; his grandchildren, John Booth, Stacey Booth Staples, Angela Heaberlin, Ashley Booth Willaby, Nick Booth and Brad Booth and two great grandchildren, Caleb Staples and Austyn Willaby. He is also survived by his sister, Ann Elaine Petrosky of Olyphant, Pennsylvania and numerous cousins.
