John Benton Ramsey
On January 10th God called home one of his beloved saints. On January 11 would have been his 77th birthday. He was an avid fisherman who never caught any fish. He was before his strokes a gospel singer, from a long line of gospel singers. We will celebrate his home going with human sadness but a joyful heart.
He was born in Pasadena, Texas to John Newton and Carrie Ramsey. He had lived in Longview since 1967. He worked as a Welder for Lufkin Foundry, Trailmobile and also worked for Pegues-Hurst Ford in Longview. He was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Longview.
He is survived by his wife Virginia of Longview; two sons, John Paul Ramsey and Gary Lynnwood Ramsey both of Longview, daughter and son-in-law, Catherine Alisa Wright and husband Joe of Rogers, Arkansas; six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two sisters, Rosalie Smathers of Pasadena, TX.; Anna Mae Ramsey of League City, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Carrie Ramsey, two sisters, Fannie Lou Ramsey Calhoun and Evie Mae Ramsey, two brothers, Thomas Rasmey and Wilbur Ramsey.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday January 12, 2005 from 6pm until 8 pm.
Funeral services will be held at Two O?clock pm Thursday January 13, 2005 at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home 1617 Judson Road with Reverend James Renfro officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
