Joey Jennings' Obituary
Joseph Ray Jennings, 20, of Longview, TX, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2013. He was born in Longview, TX, on October 29, 1992, to Jack and Laurie Jennings.
Joey attended K-12 in the Pine Tree School District. He played trumpet in the Pine Tree Band, was Treasurer of the Interact Club, was on the Spring Hill Bank Student Board, competed in several UIL events, was in AP classes, and graduated with a 3.49 GPA in May 2011.
He was involved in soccer from age five until his death. He played recreational soccer through Greater Longview Soccer Association, competitive soccer in Arlington, and was on the Pine Tree High School JV soccer team during his Junior year. He played goalie from the age of 10 and was a referee from the age of 14.
Joey joined the Army in March 2012, and graduated boot camp at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, in May 2012. He earned Expert in Marksmanship and Grenades. He went to AIT at Ft. Huachuca, AZ, and was then sent to Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio. He was to have begun the Radiology Technician program on January 09, 2013. Joey has been posthumously awarded the rank of Private First Class.
A memorial service for Joey will be held Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Rader Funeral Home in Longview. His last wishes for cremation will be honored and then he will be interred at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Joey is survived by his parents, Jackie Ray and Laurie Anne Perez Jennings of Longview; grandmothers, Nancy Ray Miller of Lewisburg, TN and Barbara Sue Lewis of Hallsville, TX; brothers, Christopher Ray Jennings of White Oak; Brandon Wilson McLaughlin of Longview; and Michael Ray Jennings of Longview; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandfathers, James Leon Jennings and Moses Joseph Perez, Jr.
