Jo Etta York's Obituary
Jo Etta Morriss York was born April 21, 1918 in Telephone, Texas to Eddie Elbert Morriss and Connie Lummus Morriss went to be with the Lord on December 18, 2005 in Plano, Texas. She graduated from Bonham High School and North Texas State University and was employed by the Texas A & M Extension Services as County Home Demonstration Agent and District Extension Agent for 35 years. Jo Etta worked in Smith, Harrison, and Gregg counties prior to service as District Agent for some 19 counties working out of Canton, Texas. Prior to Extension service employment, Jo Etta taught school in Mulberry, Von Ormy, and San Marcus, Texas.
Jo Etta was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Leonard Rich, her second husband Ansley Tate York of 39 years, her daughter, Barbara Lee York Smith, her brother Gene D. Morriss.
Jo Etta was involved in training many extension service agents, was involved in state fair demonstration and served as a member of the 4-H foundation committees and started the 4-H Gold Star program in Harrison county. In 1961 Jo Etta received the distinguished service award from the County Home Demonstration Association of Texas and she served as president of that agency. She was involved with the Red Cross and many other civic organizations.
Jo Etta attended the First Christian Church of Longview, Texas during her many active years and served in many church capacities.
Jo Etta is survived by her daughter Mary Ellen and husband Jim Allen and grand children Jamey Allen and Jeffery Allen, Timothy Smith and Christopher Smith. Also survived by Sisters: Adaline Merrell, Margaret Collins, brothers: Edd Morriss, Lee Roy Morriss and James Morriss.
The family would like to thank Hospice and the staff at Creekside Facility in Plano for their loving care during Jo Etta?s last months.
Services will be conducted at the Rader Funeral Home in Longview, Texas and burial will be at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, 500 Harrison Road, Longview, Texas. Visitation will be held at Rader funeral home prior to service from 12:00PM to 2:00PM on December 21, 2005 and funeral service starting at 2:00 PM with Reverend Jim Lewis officiating..
