Joesph Wendell Black Jr.'s Obituary
Joe W. Black, Jr., age 76, died suddenly on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Buckner Westminster Place in Longview, Texas. Little Joe, as he was known by family and friends, was born on October 21, 1936 in Dallas, Texas to the late Joe and Mabel Barber Black; he was the eldest of three children. Little Joe was husband to the late Carol June Kent.
Little Joe was a Boy Scout, attained the rank of Eagle Scout, and was the youngest at the time to receive the God and Country award. He attended Longview High School and played Lobo football as #63 before graduating in 1955. He continued attending Lobo games until later in life when he would follow the games by radio. After attending Stephen F. Austin State University, he made his love of boating into his career with his father in the family business at Black Boat and Motor Co. He enjoyed deep-sea fishing, traveling, and looking for the joy and humor in life. He was kind, generous, and always had a story to tell. His smile and fun-loving spirit will be missed by all.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law Tamara Black and Zunaid Kazi, and his granddaughter Zara Kazi, all of Singapore; his brother and sister-in-law Robert and Jean Black of Longview; his sister and brother-in-law Martha and Ken Lewis of Greenville, Texas; nephew David Fowler and his wife Victoria of Fort Worth, TX; niece DeAnn Bodey and husband Karey of McKinney, TX; niece Sheli Black Kipp and husband Rick of Longview, TX; nephew Robbie Black and wife Maria of Durango, CO; nephew Darin Black of Pagosa Springs, CO; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Kent, and by his parents, Joe and Mabel Black. He was loved and will be missed greatly.
