Joe, surrounded by his family, went to be with the Lord on the evening of June 26th after a brief illness. Joe was born in Jones Prairie, Texas, to parents Frank and Nettie Thrasher on May 14, 1928. After graduating from Rosebud High School, Joe attended San Angelo State Junior College on a football scholarship. He enlisted in the Army in 1946 where he served in Japan with the 11th Airborne Division. There, he completed the Army Airborne School to become a qualified Army parachutist. After an honorable discharge, he completed his education at the University of North Texas, earning a degree in Business Administration.
Joe began his career in Dallas, Texas, as a sales representative for IBM. It was there he met and married the love of his life, Mary Ross Coleman, in September of 1958. In 1967, he moved his family to Longview, Texas. He owned and operated Longview Typewriter and Office Supply until his retirement in 1994.

His favorite pastime was spending his days at the family property.
The family would like to thank the caretakers from Comfort Keepers Fay, Olive, and Shay, as well as HeartsWay Hospice nurses Susan and Tim. Each of these people compassionately cared for Joe during his illness.
